- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to analyze and reinterpret several motifs appearing in “The Horla" of Guy de Maupassant. In “The Horla”, there are ‘objects’ that appear repeatedly. This article is designed according to the detailed plan of the protagonist, ‘I’. If you reclassify the ‘events’ of this novel in a logical order, it can be seen that there is an error in the flow of the story. If you read “The Horla” again based on the reconstructed plot, you can find that ‘I’ kept a diary with hidden intentions. The problem is that ‘I’’s narrative is both conscious and unconscious. By looking at objects that are consciously placed based on the law of entropy, you can find the direction of the ‘I’’s unconscious. Based on this direction, this study analyzes how the stigma and the frame that ‘I’ exerts on the ‘people’ around him have an effect on the reader.
