SNS 정치정보에 대한 선택적 노출, 이견토론, 공감성향이 정치집단 간 불안에 미치는 영향에 대한 탐구

Abstract

최근 SNS는 다양한 정보의 유통 창구로서 역할을 하고 있다. 이에 따라 만약 SNS에서 자신의 관점과 일치하는 정치정보만 선택적으로 소비한다면 정치집단 간 불안이 커질 수 있다는 우려가 나오고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 SNS 환경을 중심으로 정치정보에 대한 선택적 노출과 이견토론이 정치집단 간 불안에 미치는 영향을 탐구했다. 또한 이 과정에서 개인의 공감성향이 SNS 이견토론과 정치집단 간 불안의 관계를 조절하는가를 살펴보았다. 연구결과는 선택적 노출의 집단 간 불안에 대한 직접적인 영향과 이견토론을 통한 조절된 매개효과가 함께 존재하는 것을 보여주었다. 즉 선택적 노출은 정치집단 간 불안을 증가시켰지만 이견토론을 통해서는 정치집단 간 불안을 감소시키는 역할도 한 것이다. 이때 이견토론이 정치집단 간 불안의 감소에 미치는 효과는 공감성향이 낮은 사람들에게서 더욱 크게 나타났다. 연구결과는 선택적 노출이 반드시 정치집단 간 불안을 증가시키지는 않으며 이견토론을 통해 불안을 감소시키는 역할도 하는 것을 보여준다.

Recently, SNS has been serving as a distribution channel for various information. As a result, there are concerns that if individuals selectively consume only political information consistent with their perspectives on SNS, this may increase anxiety among political groups. Therefore, this study explored the effect of SNS selective exposure to political information and cross-cutting discussion on intergroup anxiety. In addition, it was examined whether individual empathy disposition moderates the relationship between cross-cutting discussion and intergroup anxiety. Results showed that both the direct effect of selective exposure on intergroup anxiety and the indirect moderated mediating effect of empathic disposition are significant. In other words, selective exposure increased intergroup anxiety, but it also played a role in reducing intergroup anxiety through cross-cutting discussion, in which the anxiety reduction was greater in people with lower empathic disposition. Results show that selective exposure not only increases inter-political group anxiety but also reduces the anxiety through cross-cutting discussion.
