Along with economic development, the beauty industry has shown significant growth due to increased interest in beauty. Following the specialization of the industry, it can be subdivided according to hair, skin, nail, and makeup, and the types of related occupations were also diversified. Among them, the nail industry has shown remarkable growth with increasing numbers of workers, and the national qualification system for the hairdresser (nail) area established in 2014 provided an opportunity for gaining public recognition as a professional occupation. However, in the Korean employment classification of occupations, the occupations of beauty services are classified as barbers, hairdressers, skin care and fitness managers, makeup artists, pet grooming and pet care workers, and other workers in beauty treatment services, however, workers in the nail industry are not included in that classification. The Korean employment classification of occupations established by the Ministry of Employment and Labor is regarded as an important official and national system for classification used as a basic framework for employment of nail beauty workers, however, because workers in the nail industry are not included in that classification, social recognition for nail beauty-related occupations is limited, which can affect job performance, leading to loss of competitiveness in the beauty industry. In addition, collection of statistical information related to the nail industry and development of a professional training system to foster professional manpower is not possible. Consequently, obtaining official support from the government can be difficult. Therefore, the objective of this study is to examine the problem caused by exclusion of workers in the nail industry from the Korean employment classification of occupations and to propose establishment of a new occupational classification for the nail industry. The goal of this study is to enhance the professional values of such workers utilizing various national policies as an effort to contribute to development in the nail industry.-
