This research was conducted on the Ci poetry of Sunyu Peng, who, while playing a key part in the advancement of early Qing philosophy at its epicenter in Yangzhou’s Ci poet group, never received proper credit for his role and works. This research analyzes Peng’s Ci poetry and centers on his works such as ‘Jilü (羈旅)’, ‘Yanqing (艶情)’ and ‘RYongwu (詠物)’, which, quantitatively speaking, made up most of the diverse topics tackled by Peng. In his Jilü Ci, the emotions of the individual traversing places far from home, longings for family and friends as well as feelings about the scenery and history of the regions he wandered through were well expressed. The Yanqing Ci portrayed not so much the degenerate yet widely-accepted expressions of love at the time, but rather highlighted the love between a sincere husband and wife. The Yongwu Ci gave not only a precise depiction of the form of objects but included the mentality and feelings of the author himself as well. The greatest characteristic of Peng’s Ci poetry is that, regardless of the topic, he faithfully reflected his personal and sincere feelings towards each situation within each Ci. This originated from Peng’s unique understanding of the Ci pPoetics, which should be acknowledged as moving forward and bringing change to what was formally a rather playfully creative mentality found amongst early Qing Ci groups.-
