- Abstract
- For the last ten years the number of violent crimes have rapidly increased by 66.2% and crime recently become more sophisticated and ferocious. In order to prevent crime, central government and several municipal governments have applied Crime Prevention Through Environment Design (CPTED) in several residential areas. However, the implementation process of CPTED has not been systemized and organized because of the limit in time and budget. The purpose of this study is to improve the implementation process of CPTED with analyzing important factors and suggesting planning directions for CPTED projects in order. Factors for CPTED and planning directions analyzed in this study were derived from guidelines suggested by police, central government and foreign countries and several demonstration projects performed by central and municipal governments. This study adopts Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) to calculate relative importance of the CPTED factors and planning directions. The data was collected from experts and public officials who have experience about CPTED projects. According to the result of AHP, natural surveillance was considered as the most important factor. Based on this result, the study proposes the importance of planning factors and planning directions to implement CPTED in future demonstration projects.
