수용과 하향비교가 주관적 에이징웰에 미치는 효과

Abstract

본 연구에서는 주관적 에이징웰(subjective agingwell)에 긍정적 효과를 주는 것으로 알려진 수용대처와 하향이질화(downward contrast) 사회비교 대처가 주관적 에이징웰에 미치는 영향을 검증하였다. 이를 위해 서울과 경기도에 소재한 노인종합복지관 이용자 250명이 수용, 하향이질화, 주관적 에이징웰을 측정하는 질문지에 응답하였다. 위계적 회귀분석과 신뢰밴드(confidence bands) 분석 결과, 문제에 대한 수용이 어려운 노년층에게는 하향이질화 비교가 주관적에이징웰을 향상시켜줄 수 있었지만, 직면한 문제를 자기 삶의 일부로 수용하는 노인에게 하향이질화 비교는 주관적 에이징웰에 유의한 효과를 가지지 않았다. 본 연구에서는 주관적 에이징웰을 고양시킬 수 있는 방법을 확인하고자 하였고 특히, 노화문제상황에서 일반 노인도 비교적 쉽게 적용할 수 있는 방식을 제안했다는 점에서 본 연구의의의를 찾을 수 있다.

The purpose of the present study was to address how to boost subjective agingwell. The concept of subjective agingwelldescribes elders’ evaluative reactions—cognitive, affective, and spiritual—to their aging. Two hundred and fifty community-dwellingelders completed the instruments assessing acceptance, downward contrast, and subjective agingwell. Results from hierarchicalregression analyses showed that acceptance, downward contrast comparison, and the interaction between acceptance and downwardcontrast could positively affect subjective agingwell. Specifically, confidence bands indicated that downward contrast could enhancethe subjective agingwell only when the level of acceptance was low. These findings represent a step forward in finding an efficientavenue to enhance subjective agingwell. (Korean J Stress Res 2016;24:201∼209)
