과학기술계 기혼여성의 ‘어머니 역할’ 수행에 대한 사회적 지지와 진로장벽, 직업적 자기효능감에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 과학기술계 기혼여성의 ‘어머니 역할’ 에 대한 전문직 동료의 사회적 지지를 포착하고 과학기술계 여성의 지각된 진로장벽 및 직업적 자기효능감을 밝히는 것이다. 이를 위해 질적 연구를 수행하였고 참여자는 8명(과학기술계 전문직 여성 4명, 가족친화적 인문사회분야 전문직 여성 4명)이었다. 심층면접으로 자료를 수집한 후 이들의 경험을 코드화하고 이어서 삼각측량법에 의해 범주화하였다. 연구결과, 과학기술계의 경우 가족친화적 인문사회계와 달리 첫째, 어머니 역할 수행에 대한 전문적 동료의 사회적 지지가 부족하였으며 둘째, 어머니 역할 수행에 따른 진로장벽 극복 역시 개인의 몫으로 치부되었고 셋째, 어머니 역할 수행으로 개인의 직업적 자기효능감이 낮아졌다.

The purpose of this study is to capture professional colleagues’ social supports on the mothering role of married women in the field of science and technology and to explore their perceived career barriers and vocational self-efficacy. For this purpose, this study used a generic qualitative research method. The research participants were eight female professionals (4 in science and technology fields and 4 in family-friendly humanity and social science fields). The data were collected from the in-depth interviews and then coded and categorized based on triangulation. Compared to married women in family-friendly humanity and social science fields, married women in science and technology fields 1) receive low social support from professional colleagues, 2) consider overcoming carrier barriers as individual responsibility, and 3) experience reduced vocational self-efficacy due to their mothering roles.
