Abstract
Currently in Korea, 24 nuclear power plants are in operation, 12 of which will be shut down by 2029. However, the needs for the operation has been brought up especially in Korea where there are no regulations, frameworks or guidelines for decontamination and no decommissioning experiences compared to other places including IAEA, the U.S. NRC, UK, Germany, etc. Specifically, severe problems have been raised due tothe distribution in Yeongnam region where earthquakes occur frequently. However, the factors for safety assessment upon decommission has not been prepared at all. As such, this research involves a primary study for the development of the safety evaluation on domestic nuclear power plant decommission, aims to compare and analyze safety assessment framework in major countries, and to draw proper implications.
