A Study on the Features of Grotesque Expression of Music Video

Abstract

This research aims to draw the implications of visual features depicted in Adam Jones’s music videos and demonstrate that the ‘grotesque’ is the gist of his work. In general, grotesqueness is identified with symbiosis of heterogeneous and contradictory features, deformation, demonic macabre, obscenity, and so on. However, the key meaning of the grotesque lies in the force of subverting the absurd and groundless order of social relations and the false identity of subject, through alienation effects and tense laughter on the part of the audience.
