- Abstract
- The low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste (LILW) is generally isolated from the ecosystem through the near-surface disposal method. The near-surface disposal facilities are constructed by installing reinforced concrete vaults on the unsaturated ground, stacking drums containing radioactive waste, and then filling it with backfill drainage materials such as cement. In this study, to monitor the structural health of the near-surface disposal facilities under earthquakes, the measurement elements and the optimal sensor positions are determined. A finite element model of the reinforced concrete vault is modeled, and dynamic analysis is performed under earthquakes to investigate the weakest part of the vault.
