Occupants' evaluation of indoor air quality in a case of newly built apartments

Abstract

Indoor air quality (IAQ) in newly built apartments was statistically analyzed through review and questionnaire study. In the review study, changes of air pollutants levels from 2006 to 2008 were statistically analyzed. The questionnaire survey for occupants living in the newly built apartments was conducted in 2010. The questionnaire consisted of two parts: one for information on occupants; the second for satisfaction on IAQ in their apartments. About 928 occupants participated in the questionnaire survey. The change of the occupants' evaluation on IAQ was statistically analyzed through review study. Finally, the correlation analysis was conducted between IAQ of newly built apartments and occupants' satisfaction. The concentrations of formaldehyde and VOCs have been significantly decreasing from 2006 to 2008. However, there was no significant change in the occupants' satisfaction on indoor air quality from 2006 to 2008.
