레이스가 활용된 주얼리디자인의 표현 방법에 관한 연구

Abstract

현대 디자인은 그동안의 관습에서 탈피하는 경향을 보이고 있는데, 이러한 현상은 패션과 주얼리 디자인에서도 나타난다. 의복과 주얼리 디자인에서 그 경계가 불명확해지면서 고유의 기능과 형태, 착용방식이 혼재되었는데, 이는 새로운 디자인으로 발전하는 등 중요한 결과를 가져왔다. 이 연구는 주얼리와 의복 간 경계가 모호해지면서 발생한 재료와 형식의 변화에 주목한다. 전통적으로 의복의 장식요소였던 레이스가 주얼리 디자인에서 어떤 방식으로 활용될 수 있을지 사례를 알아보고 앞으로의 활용 가능성을 살펴보는 데 목적을 둔다. 연구의 주요 방법은 다음과 같다. 우선 시대에 따른 의복 속 레이스의 변천 과정과 제작 방법에 따른 레이스의 종류에 관하여 이론적으로 고찰했다. 현대 주얼리 디자인에서 레이스가 활용된 사례 연구는 현대 주얼리 디자인 경향을 반영하기 위해 2000년대 이후의주얼리 디자인으로 한정하여 진행하였다. 기존 문헌 조사 결과, 16세기부터 유럽의 남녀 복식에 사용된 레이스는 수작업으로 정교하게 제작되는 값비싼 장식 직물로 고가의 제작비용과 희소성으로 인해특정 계급의 의상에만 제한적으로 사용됐던 의복 장식이었다. 19세기 말에서 20세기 초 2차 산업혁명으로 기계식 제작방식이 도입되며 레이스는 대중화되었다. 최근에는 패션과 테크놀로지가 결합하면서, 3D 프린팅 기술을 활용한 레이스까지 등장하면서 기존의 레이스 제작방식과 재료에 또 다른 변화를가져왔다. 현대 주얼리의 디자인에서는 주로 레이스를 모티브로 활용하여 심미성과 조형성을 표현한다. 본 연구에서는 재료의 변화를 통한 레이스의 재해석과 현대 기술의 접목으로 변화된 제작 방식을통해 주얼리 디자인 소재로서 레이스의 잠재된 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다. 개성과 다양성이 중요시되는 현대 디자인에서 의복의 소재를 주얼리의 조형적 매체로 사용하여 주얼리와 의복의 경계를 허무는다양한 표현 방법이 연구된다면 주얼리 디자인의 다양성 확대와 발전에 도움이 될 것이다.

Contemporary design has shown a trend away from conventional design. Contemporary fashion also has broken down the boundaries between costume and jewelry, it has brought valuable results in the development of new designs by mixing their own functions, materials, shapes, and wearing methods. As the boundary between jewelry and costume became ambiguous, materials, forms of the jewelry also have been changed. This research aimed at investigating the application case of laces which are used to decorate the clothes in the jewelry area and also examine the applicability in the near future. The main research methods are as follows. The case study of using laces in the contemporary jewelry design area is to reflect the modern jewelry design trend. So the case study is only focused on the jewelry designs after the 2000s. According to the literature review, the lace has been used for men’s and women’s clothes from the 16th century Europe. It was highly priced because of the delicate handwork, the particular class in Europe could use the lace for decorating their clothes. With technological advances in 2nd Industrial Revolution from the late 19th century into the early 20th century, the textile manufacturing was started from Europe and machine-made lace had been popularized. Recently with the convergence of fashion and technology like 3D-printed lace is now in progress and it also has impacts on the materials and previous technique. In the contemporary jewelry design, lace has been used as a motif to express aesthetics and formativeness. This paper finds the potential of lace as a material of the contemporary jewelry design through reinterpreting lace from a modern view point and also changes of jewelry techniques and skills. It is highly valued on individuality and diversity in modern design area. If further study of this field provides new techniques and skills which gets blurred the boundary of two different areas - jewelry and costume, it will be helpful to develop the contemporary jewelry design and also diversify into new design.
