Surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous machines (SPMSM) have low field weakening capability. This fact limits the implementation of these machines in high-speed applications. This paper proposes a winding changeover scheme, which realizes the multi-speed operation of the SPMSM, decreases induced back EMF by 6.33 times, and increases the base speed of the machine by 7.33 times. There are four possible winding configurations, which resultin a different amount of back EMF. To verify the roposed scheme, the finite element method (FEM) simulation resultsare provided.-
