공립과학관 유형 및 특성에 관한 기초연구

Abstract

제1세대 과학관부터 제4세대 과학관에 이르면서 과학관은 지역특화 및 사회적 역할을 수행하는 하이브리드 공간으로서 일상생활 속의 과학관이라는 방향으로 과학관이 지역산업과 연계하고 모든 사람들에게 과학문화의 혜택이 돌아갈 수 있는 사이언스 리터리시가 강조되게 된다. 이런 변화는 정부에서 주도하는 과학관 기본계획에서도 나타난다. 제3차 과학관 기본계획에서는 지역과학관과의 협력네트워크 강화 및 공, 사립과학관의 인력 및 컨설팅지원 등이 있었고, 제4차 과학관 기본계획에서는 지역균형 서비스를 위한 체험공간의 확충 및 소외계층 등의 서비스 공간 확대로 지역의 공립과학관의 지원확대가 주요 이슈였다. 이처럼 정책적으로 공립과학관의 역할이 중요하게 대두되고 있지만, 우리나라의 석, 박사 및 학술연구 분야에서는 지역 공,사립과학관의 연구가 전무한 상태였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 신규 공립과학관을 확충에 집중하기 보다는 기존의 공립과학관을 다시 활성화 시킬 수 있는 정책적 대안이 필요하다고 생각되어 본 연구를 진행하게 되었다. 과학관중 60%를 차지하는 공립과학관을 중심으로 본 연구가 진행되었으며, 실증적 연구를 위해 공립과학관 중 2018년에서 2019년 2년 동안 가장 많은 관람객이 방문한 과학관을 대상으로 삼았다. 연구의 시작은 먼저 공립과학관을 테마관광형, 교육중심형, 지역참여형 그리고 산업연계형의 4가지로 유형화하고 유형별로 연구대상 과학관을 선정해 실증연구한 후, 유형별 특징을 정의하여 각 공립과학관을 유형 특징에 맞게 체계적이고 실질적으로 운영할 수 있도록 하는 것이다.

From the first generation of science museums to the fourth generation of science museums, science museums are hybrid spaces that play regional and social roles, and science literacy will be emphasized where science museums can connect with local industries and benefit everyone. These changes can also be seen in the government-led Science Museum master plan. The 3rd Science Museum Basic Plan included strengthening cooperation networks with local science museums and supporting human resources and consulting by public and private science museums, while the 4th Science Museum Basic Plan expanded support from local public science museums by expanding experience spaces for balanced regional services and service spaces for the underprivileged. As such, the role of public science museums is emerging as an important policy, but there has been no research by local public and private science museums in the field of master's, doctoral, and academic research in Korea. Therefore, this study was conducted because it was thought that a policy alternative to revitalizing existing public science museums was needed rather than focusing on expanding new public science museums. This study was conducted around public science museums, which account for 60% of science museums, and targeted the most visited science museums in the two years from 2018 to 2019 for empirical research. The start of the study is to first classify public science museums into four types: themed tourism type, education-oriented type, regional participation type, and industry-linked type, select science museums by type and conduct empirical research, and define the characteristics of each type so that each public science museum can be systematically and practically operated according to the characteristics of the type.
