Abstract
This study is to investigate the structural performance of a steel slit damper with varied strut widths. Thespecimens were made of mild carbon steel, commonly used in general structures, and three damper shapes were designedwith strut width and number as variables. To assess structural performance, a cyclic loading protocol was planned underconstant amplitude based on shear strain angle. The test results showed that as the story drift angle increased, the nuber oftotal cycle up to 90% of the maximum force after the peak force decreased by an average of about 1/2. For the same shearstrain angle, the specimen with a central strut width of 100mm had higher initial stiffness and maximum force than theother specimens, but it exhibited early shear crack formation and a decrease in force capacity at the 90% maximum forcepoint, resulting in the lowest energy absorption capacity.
