dc.description.abstract | In 2023, the National Museum of Korea recorded a total of 10.47 million visitors, including 13 the Regional NationalMuseums, and attributed the increase in visitors to the brand specialization strategies that it has been steadily promoting torevitalize local culture. The National Museum of Korea established [Plan of Exhibition Reorganization for the Regional NationalMuseum Specialization, 2008] as well as [Mid- to Long-term plan for the Regional National Museum Specialization, 2018], andhas applied those to the permanent exhibition reorganizations proactively and systematically with an aim to diversify theRegional National Museum that reflects the history and locality of the area. This research aims to study the changes ofin theexhibition design of the Regional National Museum, focusing on the spaces that have transformed changed according to thespecialization strategies since 2018, through the analysis of the re-organization request for proposal and field research. A surveyof 10 the Regional National Museums that has undergone reorganization of their permanent exhibition shows a clear shift inexhibition design in terms of exhibition media. This study focuses on analogue media (i.e., relics&graphics) and digital mediaincluding immersive virtual contents that the National Museum of Korea mainly use. Relics change to create a dedicated spaceand display it alone or collectively. In the case of graphics, it was changed to reduce the amount of information delivered andincrease the level of immersion by Computer-Graphic (CG) works and stereoscopic composition methods. In the case of digitalmedia, it has changed to use a dedicated space to display exhibitory immersive-media contents and interactiveimmersive-media contents. In addition, both analog and digital media are being combined with other media to create compositedesigns. It shows museums’ changes to be a cultural entertainment space with increased viewer satisfaction, going beyond thebasic function of conveying knowledge, by amplifying viewer’s interest and immersion with more artistic and complex display ofthe specialized theme that each museum intends to achieve. | - |
