dc.description.abstract | Natural polysaccharide chitosan is the second most widely used polymeric material after cellulose. Due to its biocompatibility characteristics and ease of modification, chitosan and its derivatives, especially carboxymethyl chitosan, have recently attracted much attention for their use in biosensing applications. The applications are determined by the chemical functionalization methods used during the synthesis process, such as carboxymethylation. Additionally, the biosensing applications may be accomplished by including functional groups, such as proteins, nanoparticles, and antibodies, to impart particular sensing abilities used in clinical diagnosis and biomedicine. The sensitivity, selectivity, and stability of carboxymethyl chitosan have been analyzed, and the findings have been demonstrated with great precision and constancy. Applying specific, selective, and affordable sensing platforms for various purposes would surely benefit from further developments in carboxymethyl chitosan. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023. | - |
