dc.description.abstract | Significant development has been achieved in searching the biocompatible biomaterials for various biological and biomedical applications. For example, Chitooligosacchairdes (COS), the derivative of chitosan, is a water-soluble natural cationic biopolymer that has been extensively used for biological, tissue engineering, and drug delivery applications. Antimicrobial and antitumor application of COS and their derivatives were presented in the present chapter. COS has been used in studying cardiac, nerve, and skin tissue engineering applications. Due to the cationic nature of COS, the utilization of gene and drug delivery are also discussed. In addition, COS can be modified and tuned concerning the applications. The biocompatible, biodegradable, and non-toxic nature of COS can be potentially explored for further biological and biomedical applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.
