dc.description.abstract | Due to the Presence of safety critical applications in VANET there is a need of auuthentication of messages and the nodes that are generating those messages. However, the privacy of each vehicle and driver needs to be preserved as well. Recently, a number of publications have been emerged proposing various privacy preserving pseudonym based authentication schemes. These scheme differ mainly in their way of using pseudonym. In this paper, we present and discuss a variety of these schemes along with their pros and cons. With the help of our through analysis we identify that none of these schemes are sufficiently achieving their goals. Either the schemes are lacking in providing proper privacy or their attempt to provide sufficient privacy is harming the effectiveness of security ciritical applications of VANET. In the end of the paper, we propose few guidelines for providing effective privacy preserving authentication in VANET. | - |
