dc.description.abstract | Earlier call admission methods for 2nd generation DS-CDMA mobile systems optimized to deliver voice communications generally have used uplink quality information for deciding the admission because the system capacity is limited by uplink (mobile-to-base). In 3rd generation DS-CDMA mobile systems, however, multiservices including voice and wireless Internet access will be provided and downlink (base-to-mobile) will limit the system performance due to the biased volume of traffic transmitted on downlink. In this paper, we will point out why existing call admission methods are inadequate for handling multiservice traffic on downlink and provide a novel call admission control (CAC) method that uses downlink quality information as well as considers different quality of service (QOS) requirements from users in multiservice classes such as required signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) and transmission rate. | - |
