dc.description.abstract | Coastal building and infrastructure is corroding severely due to chloride laden atmosphere. Therefore, anodic metals are essentially required to protect the steel structure. In the present studies, we have tried to correlate the corrosion protection of steel if different metallic wires are used to coat the steel structure. Different metallic wires such as Al, Zn, Al-Zn and Al-Mg have been taken for corrosion studies in 3.5% NaCl solution with exposure periods. The alloying of 5% Mg in Al wire performed excellent in corrosion resistance followed by Al, 15Al-85Zn and Zn. The nominal amount of Mg significantly increased the corrosion resistance of Al-5Mg wire attributed to the formation of compact, adherent and protective θ-Al2O3 passive film as well as there is possibility to form Al-Mg layered double hydroxide (LDH). | - |
