- Abstract
- : The steel rebar corrodes in the chloride contaminated condition where the Cl- ions breakdown the passive film and leads the corrosion
reaction. Therefore, different protective schemes such as using inhibitor, cathodic protection and deposition of coating onto the steel rebar, being
adopted by the researcher and engineers. In the present studies, a 100 µm thick coating of Zn and 85Zn15Al alloy coating was deposited by arc
thermal spray process where in the alloy coating, 15 wt.% Al was alloyed as feedstock in pure the Zn. The coated (Zn and 85Zn15Al) steel rebar was
embedded in concrete by keeping 0.5 water/cement ratio. The corrosion performance of both coatings was studied in 3.5 wt.% NaCl under
accelerated condition where 4 days of drying and 3 days was wetting at different duration. It is found that the alloying with 15 wt.% Al in Zn coating
improves the corrosion resistance properties under accelerated condition
