우암 송시열 생애의 구조적 해석

Abstract

본 연구는 조선 후기 유학자 우암 송시열의 생애를 명리학적 관점에서 분석함으로써, 그의 도학적 신념, 정치적 실천, 그리고 삶의 전개 구조를 통합적으로 조망하고자 하였다. 신금 일간의 식신격에 해당하는 그의 명조는 조후 상으로는 화와 목의 보완이 요구되나, 현실적으로는 이를 충족하지 못한 구조로 분석된다. 이러한 구조는 예와 도리를 중시한 우암의 사상과 실천, 그리고 반복된 정치적 갈등 및 유배와 유의미한 상관성을 지닌다. 본 연구는 특히 조후 중심 해석과 십성 중심 해석이 충돌하는 지점을 분석하고, 식신과 상관의 이중적 특성이 어떻게 실제 생애에 반영되었는지를 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 명리학이 단일한 격국 해석을 넘어, 생애 맥락과 실천 양상까지 아우르는 통합적 접근이 필요함을 제안한다. 또한 명조 해석은 해석자의 이론적 전제와 시점에 따라 달라질 수 있음을 지적하며, 명리학적 해석에 있어 구조적 유연성과 맥락적 성찰의 중요성을 강조한다.

This study analyzes the life of Uam Song Si-yeol, a prominent Confucian scholar of the late Joseon dynasty, through the lens of Four Pillars of Destiny (Myeongri). The research aims to explore the structural patterns underlying his Confucian ideals, political practice, and life trajectory. Song’s natal chart is identified as a “Shikshin-gyeok” (Food God structure) with a Xin Metal day stem. Although the chart requires the complementary influence of Fire and Wood for elemental balance (Johu), such supplementation was not sufficiently realized in his actual fate. This imbalance reflects the tension between his lifelong dedication to ritual and moral principle, and his repeated involvement in political conflicts and exiles. Focusing on the interplay and tension between seasonal balance (Johu) and Ten Gods (Sipseong), this study highlights the dual characteristics of Food God and Hurting Officer manifested in Song’s actions and life. It argues that Myeongri analysis should move beyond rigid structural categorization and incorporate practical expression, life context, and interpreter perspective. The paper ultimately emphasizes the methodological importance of interpretive flexibility and contextual reflection in the structural interpretation of historical figures using Myeongri.
