dc.description.abstract | This paper presents a new starting method for a three phase, brushless wound rotor synchronous machine (BL-WRSM) [2]. In this method, 3 phase windings are arranged in a special configuration and excited by single phase current for the starting purpose. This generates the pulsating magneto motive force (MMF) in the air gap of the machine. There is an additional sub-harmonic component of pulsating MMF generated due to the proposed method, and is induced in rotor excitation winding and provides DC current to the field winding through rotating rectifier. The proposed starting method is been implemented and analysed using 2D finite element analysis (FEA) and the results show an improvement in starting performance of the machine. | - |
