Abstract
The nonlinear dynamic structural optimization method of equivalent static loads method (ESLM) has been widely applied to practical problems. The method uses the sensitivity of linear static analysis instead of that of nonlinear dynamic analysis. The sensitivity differences of nonlinear dynamic analysis and linear static analysis is reduced by repeating the design cycle. In this research, performance comparison of the ESLM and design of experiments (DOE) is demonstrated for a hydroforming optimization process. In DOE, the Latin hyper cube and orthogonal array is utilized as a sampling method and Kriging is utilized for curve fitting. The objective of tube hydro forming is to obtain a desired shape without failures. The axial force and the internal pressure are utilized as design variables. An expanding tube example is solved using ESLM and DOE, and performances are discussed.
