The Vietnamese economic growth has placed significant pressure on both infrastructure and environment, especially the pressure of increasing building demand, resource consumption, the pollution problems… In response to the development challenges and the green movement globally, the government has initiated actions to promote GBs to promote more sustainable development. Recently, the Vietnamese electricity price has increased by 8.36% and it has placed significant pressure on the operation cost of the building. According to statistics of the Vietnam GBs Council, by the end of 2018, there are 174 registered LEED projects and should be increasing in the near future. The LEED certificate adds the value to the project, but also cause several extra costs and working challenges to the General constructors (GCs). Thus, the growth of LEED buildings has created a strong need for them to understand their roles of LEED requirements. This paper points the prerequisite roles of general contractors on a LEED v4 BD + C project, analyze the status of the contractor, and summarize LEED impact on their construction management practices. This research was conducted with the help of existing literature and the analyzing survey results from the constructor’ staff. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2020.-
