dc.description.abstractPower inverters are devices which can convert electrical energy of DC form into that of AC. In the medium voltage adjustable speed drive market, the various topologies have evolved with components, design, and reliability. This paper proposes a novel SCR-IGBT based voltage source inverter topology with reduced number of switches using simple commutation technique. First of all, performance wise this novel topology has similar characteristics of a conventional voltage source inverters. Secondly, it consists major reduction in number of IGBT switch count thus reducing the cost. Finally, proposed inverter can be utilized with conventional PWM commutation technique, which results simplification of the control complexity. Theoretical analysis and simulation results are provided to verify its performances.-
