This paper presents a novel dual stator axial flux spoke-type permanent magnet (DSAFSPM) machine incorporating the advantages of phase-group concentrated-coil windings for improving torque (power) density and reducing cogging torque and torque ripple. This machine contains two stators with the same slot/teeth construction but arranged to be shifted by one stator tooth width. The rotor is structured by inserting spoke-type ferrite permanent magnets. In order to highlight the contribution of the novel configuration to the DSAFSPM machine, its characteristics such as magnetic flux distribution, back EMF, cogging torque, torque ripple and electromagnetic torque are compared with those of a conventional dual stator axial flux interior permanent magnet (DSAFIPM) machine based on 3-D finite element method (FEM)-
