해외연구소의 현지지식습득에 영향을 미치는 현지국 효과에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 현지국의 기술적 역량과, 자회사 진화과정의 산물인 경로의존성이 어떻게 상호작용하는 지에 대한 이론적, 경험적 문제의식에 기반하여, 해외연구소의 현지지식습득에 대한 현지국 효과의 이론적 논의를 정리 및 제시 해보고 이를 일본의 26개 다국적기업의 해외연구소를 대상으로 실증하였다. 분석결과 현지국의 기술적 역량이 높을 수록 해외연구소의 지식습득도 증가하는 것으로 밝혀졌으며, 해외연구소의 경로의존성은 현지국으로부터의 지식습득과 역U자형 (Inverted-U shaped) 관계를 보이는 것으로 밝혀졌으며, 현지국 기술적 역량의 긍정적 효과는 해외연구소의 경로의존성에 의해 약화되는 것으로 나타났다.

Building on the concept of path dependence, this study intends to provide an analytical and theoretical discussion of the effects of host country on knowledge acquisition of overseas R&D operations. Also, we conduct an empirical analysis on the patenting activities of Japanese MNCs’ overseas R&D operations to support our arguments. The empirical results of this paper are as follows: Technological capabilities of host countries have a positive effect on knowledge acquisition of overseas R&D operations, the degree of path dependence influence negatively local knowledge sourcing of overseas R&D operations, and the degree of path dependence moderates the relationship between technological capabilities of host countries and knowledge acquisition of overseas R&D operations.
