그림카드 일러스트레이션 표현방식에 따른 유아 기억성 연구 - 영어그림카드 중심으로 -

Abstract

일러스트레이션은 유아들로 하여금 학습에 대한 접근을 보다 흥미롭고 친숙하게 도와주는 역할을 한다. 이에, 일러스트레이션은 유아의 학습도구로 널리 사용되고 있으며, 그 표현방법 또한 다양하다. 본 연구는 유아 교육 학습도구 중 하나인, 그림카드의 일러스트레이션 표현방식에 따라 유아의 기억성(기억하는 성질)에 어떠한 변화가 있는지 고찰하는 데 의의가 있다. 본 논문의 연구과제 수행을 위한 대상으로는 조기영어교육의 활성화로 인해 시장이 급격하게 확대되고 있는 영어그림카드를 선정하였으며, 현재 국내외에서 출판·판매·유통 되고 있는 영어그림카드의 일러스트레이션 표현양식을 (실사)사진표현, (사실적)구상화표현, 단순화표현, 의인화표현, 스토리텔링화표현의 5가지로 분류하였다. 이를 기초자료로 하여 서울 강동구에 위치한 유치원생 중 5세(남자아이 44명, 여자아이 44명) 대상으로 일대일 응답 설문조사를 통해 일러스트레이션 표현방식에 따른 유아 기억성을 측정하였다. 측정결과 첫째, 유아는 일러스트레이션 표현방식에 따라 기억성의 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 유아는 (실사)사진표현, 단순화표현, 스토리텔링화표현, 의인화표현, (사실적)구상화표현의 순서로 잘 기억하였다. 셋째, 일러스트레이션 표현방식과 유아의 성별은 기억성 측면에 있어 통계적으로 유의미한 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과가 유아 학습 일러스트레이션 작업 시, 참고자료가 되어 기억력 측면에서 학습적 효율성을 극대화하는 일러스트레이션 디자인 개발에 참고자료가 되길 기대한다.

Illustration is being widely used in various forms as a learning tool for its function to make toddlers learn well with interest and friendliness. This study aimed to investigate the differences in toddlers’ memorization according to the expression of illustration used in English flash cards. For this, the expressions of illustrations from home an abroad were classified into 5 sub-category; picture expression, simplified expression, storytelling expression, personified expression and realistic exteriorized expression. And a survey on 88 boys and girls at age of 5 was conducted to measure their memory about those illustrations. The results of the research, firstly, showed that there was a difference in memories of children according to the methods of expressing illustrations. And secondly, children promptly memorized illustrations in the order of picture expression, simplified expression, storytelling expression, personified expression and realistic exteriorized expression. Thirdly, it showed a statistically significant relation between the methods of expressing illustrations and gender of children in memorizing. It is expected that the results of this research will be used as the reference materials to develop an illustration design that maximizes the learning efficiency in memorizing when working on illustration for infant study.
