This paper introduces a novel two-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor with capacitor operation. At the beginning, basic structures and parameters of conventional single-phase PMSM and proposed two-phase PMSM with asymmetric U-core stators are employed. Then performances such as cogging torque, back-EMF are analyzed under the condition of no supply. On the basis of single-phase split motor, the capacitance selection method of the proposed two-phase PMSM is carried out. And performances (phase current, electromagnetic torque, torque ripple) are analyzed by using 3-D Finite Element Method (FEM). The result shows that the proposed two-phase PMSM with capacitor can work under single voltage supply condition with higher efficiency and significantly less torque ripple than the conventional one.-
