- Abstract
- Recently, research on internal combustion engines has focused on reducing CO2 emission in response to strict regulations and increasing fuel economy because of depletion of fossil fuel. To this end, various alternative energy sources have been studied in many countries. Among these, the biodiesel has received wide attention as one of those. Biodiesel has several advantages. As a typical example, we can use the existing facilities such as internal combustion engines, fuel supply systems, and gas stations. Furthermore, although biodiesel has similar structure to diesel, vehicle using biodiesel emit less emission gases than conventional diesel because of oxygen content. Also, we can obtain biodiesel from many sources. However, biodiesel has physical and chemical differences according to each kind of source. In addition, it has several problems such as corrosiveness, saturation of fuel hose and viscosity at low temperature. In this study, we analyzed engine performance and emission characteristics by different biodiesel fuel. Then we compared the results with that of diesel fuel.
