Abstract
This paper is studied a dynamic characteristics of a spur gear train supported with time-variant mesh stiffness and damping. The gear train is assumed a rigid body and a planar motion which is described by translations and rotations. And this model is considered a change of a line of action in gear mesh because of the translation motion. Based on the Timoshenko beam theory and the Hertz contact stress theory, the teeth of gear is described by the time-variant stiffness and damping because the gear train rotates according to a contact ratio. The derived equations are coupled differential equations through the translations and rotations. In order to investigate the dynamic characteristics, the dynamic time responses are obtained by using a time integration method.
