Abstract
The use of the Internet is no longer a matter of choice, but has become an essential part of life in the modern society. The public has acclimated to the use of web-based multimedia and even beyond, to inter-action with mass media becoming ubiquitous. Web sites, the center of multimedia, have undergone many trials and errors to arrive at the current 2.0 version, along the way, raising the expectations of the users and increasing its usage. Using the web as a communication tool, the public is collecting and processing enormous amounts of information. Based on user requests, web sites have improved their architecture and content to provide more specific and effective information to users. It was found, that in order to create effective web sites, it is important to analyze user experiences and alter the web sites accordingly. The original study was centered on an analysis of a museum web site based on three criteria;informationarchitecture, information design and user experience. The museum web site was selected as the model for information architecture analysis because the users are generally experienced and utilize this web site for specific search purposes. The web sites for the National Museum and the Jeju Island Citrus Museum were analyzed. The National Museum web site was relatively well designed with architecture based on providing general information along with specific user search capability, however, it was determined that the Jeju Island Citrus Museum web site used too simple images and text along with a disorganized information architecture, and therefore needed further development. A web site can satisfy both the user and the developer only when the information architecture reflects the analyzed user needs, provides effective information design, and incorporates an intuitive inter-active design for the experienced user. A well-designed web site will have a brand image following and its users will take away both wanted information and an enjoyable experience. Information architecture will be based on experience design, and web site development will become the main staple of design, making the web site progressively more useful.
