Abstract

This article reveals the following important implications and meanings of Father Céspedes in Korea and Japan. Among the missionary works of Father Céspedes during 34 years (1577-1611), the one year from 1593 to 1594, his staying in Korea as a war Father, has important meaning to Korean history. Despite a deportation order of Japan in 1587, he had contributed in making the Catholic province and increasing the number of believers in Japan, as we differently understood. And Father Céspedes had implicitly a great assistant role for Padre Visitator Alejandro Valignano to inspecting in Japan. His trace and works in Korea and Japan make us understand the recognition and boundaries of European, back then.
