dc.description.abstractThis study has been performed to predict the transient two-dimensional thermal behavior of the plate in indirectly-fired continuous heat treatment furnace. The transient temperature profiles of the plate are calculated in conjunction with constant wall temperature boundary conditions obtained by two-dimensional axisymmetric combustion analysis in the radiant tube. To verify the validity of the combustion analysis in the radiant tube, the results of the numerical analysis are compared with those of an experiment. The present numerical results agree well with the experimental data within the maximum error of 6.1%. DTRM(Discrete Transfer Radiation Model) is used for analyzing the radiative heat transfer in the heat treatment furnace and the radiant tube. The optimal operating conditions of heat treatment furnace are obtained through the parametric investigations performed to examine the effects of the fuel firing rate of the radiant tube, plate thickness and plate velocity on the thermal behavior of the plate.-
