- Abstract
Using I-O tables and outsourcing index developed by Campa and Goldberg (1997) and Strauss-Kahn (2003), this study investigates the contribution of outsourcing to the growth of TFP (Total Factor Productivity) in Korean manufacturing industries. The empirical results are summarized as follows. First, international outsourcing in services and domestic outsourcing in services play a significant role on the growth of TFP, while international outsourcing in manufacturing shows negative impact on its growth. Second, the contributions of outsourcing to the growth of TFP diminish after the financial crisis. Third, international outsourcing contributes to the growth of TFP in low-technology industries, while growth of TFP in midium-high-technology sectors and high- technology manufacturing sectors profits from international outsourcing.
