Abstract
To reflect the change and development of environment program applied to older people with dementia, residents' needs shown by their behaviors were examined to formulate an alternative of healing environment. The better the evaluation of sensory stimulation was, the more positive the reactions of residents' behavior were. Through the evaluation of six facilities' environments, it was grasped that the healing attributes were extremely included in SA, and the aim for healing was achieved through their mutual integration operation. In this study, we analyzed the relation between behaviors and the windows as an architectural element which stimulates sense. We also studied the relation between behaviors and the spatial size as an index of homelikeness and social relationships. Therefore we could draw up the architectural data for the healing environment. However the continuous verification and discussions of these results were required. This paper has two significant meanings. Primarily, the data were abstracted by sorts of important healing factors. Secondly, the evaluation of the behavioral reactions was verified as a practical tool to measure the level of the healing environment. Finally, this study provided the basis of discussion on the healing environment with sensory stimulation.
