- Abstract
- Recently, there has been an interest in intelligent cooling system as it has the potential of achieving a better fuel economy and emission reduction. It is possible mainly due to the higher coolant temperature during engine warm-up and low speed/part-load conditions. Thus the purpose of our study was to investigate the relationship between engine coolant temperature and fuel consumption. A coolant flow test rig was set for acquisition of coolant flow rate and pressure distribution. These results were used for experimental data to validate the 1-D CFD codes, Flowmaster2 & WAVE. The coolant circuit model was well matched by 2% or less error. Therefore, the engine cooling system was able to simulate by using the model. From this study, we found that the coolant flow distribution has close relationship with coolant temperature on the engine warm-up, and this results can be used for engine cooling system simulation model.
