Abstract
In order to effectively reduce the cogging torque and the torque ripple, these are resulting from the sinusoidal distributed flux density in air gap, a varying rotor pole shape is needed. This paper presents a new rotor pole design for bidirectional rotating spoke type Brushless DC (BLDC) motor. Response surface method and finite-element analysis are employed to get the rotor geometry and verify the results of new pole shape. © 2006 IEEE.
