A signis one of information-conveying media, and visually, that affects the beauty and overall image of urban community. But there's no harmonious individuality among different signs, and just their uniqueness is accentuated, instead. Specifically, there is a trend to seek after signs that are overly distinctive in size, color and form, which results in deteriorating the unique image of buildings and mass-producing stereotyped signs. Urban areas look more chaotic due to their high density and disorderly signs, and they are thought to contribute to triggering visual pollution, since just their commercial function is excessively stressed as one of economic communication media. Signs that are associated with the appearance of Dec. 2005 an urban region could be said as the possession of every citizen who dwell in it as one of visual media. From this viewpoint, signs should be produced in a professional manner by considering the overall view of a city and city planning. The purpose of this study was to delve into the development of sign advertisement design system for different cities and themes. A lack of harmony between the characteristics of Korean cities and their ad designs ends up spoiling public environments for citizens and ad consumers, and it's now necessary 切 develop a concept of ad design that has Korean overtone. Specifically, the ad design system of the United States was examined in this study, as that successfully highlights the unique features of different themes and American urban communities. Another reason was that the sign design system of the United States was splendid and suited the nation's environments. After how the sign design system of the United States had evolved was examined, the design system of that country was compared to that of Korea.-
