dc.description.abstract | In range-based localization schemes, each of anchor machines (AMs) that already know their geographical position transmits beacon signals to provide location information and measurement for blind (not yet determined) machines (BMs). The variance of location estimate by BM is certainly dependent on the received strength of the beacon signal whether or not it is above a ranging threshold. Moreover, if the ranging threshold is given, the higher beacon power results in the greater ranging radius and the faster completion of procedure to uncover BMs that are randomly distributed in a wide area. We in this paper investigate the effect of beacon power on the speed and the accuracy in determining the locations of BMs with a time difference of arrival (TDOA) method. The localization error is modeled by the received signal to noise power ratio (SNR) and a successive anchorization procedure is implemented to determine the speed of localization for all the BMs in a given area. Quantitative assessment is obtained on how much enhancement in the speed and the accuracy is possible if the beacon power increases. © 2019 IEEE. | - |
