dc.description.abstract | Throughout the last few years, web communities have developed at a very fast rate and now many users spend tremendous time on-line considering web communities as a part of their daily lives. As the demands on web communities grow higher individuals, businesses, and countries have designed and registered uncountable numbers of web sites. But, some interface designs of these web sites are considered rather inconvenient and uncomfortable for the users to communicate. Because of these reasons many web sites are not used by users. Unfortunately, icons seem to have similar problems. Icons are considered as essential graphic elements for communications on web-sites.The purpose of this study is to find effective icon design standards for the web community users. Therefore, in this research a questionnaire has been analyzed based on how to enhance the effectiveness of communication on web sites through effective icon design. The results show, that 67% of the users considered the text and graphic form of icons as the most idealistic icons. 14% answered 'nonstandard', 25% answered 'perceptivity', 22% answered 'configuration', 29% answered 'convenience' to the question 'what do the users think about icons used on-line'. Icon design road maps can be suggested through the results of the questionnaire. Further studies should be done on effective icon design, especially about the color, function, visual, order and form of icons based on the point of view, cognitive and cultural aspects of the users for a more successful web site communication. | - |
