- Abstract
- This essay explores the possibilities of literature therapy through Ginyeosijo. Ginyeo held low social positions, but had close relationships with aristocracy, and in occasions developed intimacy, or even love, with them. But these relations always end in separation, and the Ginyeo appeased themselves through Ginyeosijo. By examining the speaker's attitudes in these Ginyeosijo, we can determine their connection to literature therapy.
Ginyeosijo can be divided into three categories according to the Ginyeo's attitude in each Sijo. These are: ①indulging herself in grief, ②cherishing the illusion of hope, and ③accepting the separation. These attitudes have their own ways of treating the Ginyeo. The first method allows the Ginyeo to overcome sadness with sorrow, which is similar to catharsis, and can be considered as a form of ISO-Prinzip. The second method gives the Ginyeo hope of meeting her lover again. Although her desires do not come true, the woman fantasizes about reuniting with the man she loves, which can make her feel even more grief can before. In this case the effects are similar to the first example(indulging herself in grief), and can be seen as an altered form ISO-Prinzip. The women that use the third method are much wiser and more realistic than the preceding examples. They learn to accept the separation, and obtain esthetic distance in order to control their emotions and regain calmness of mind. This method is based on purification.
Although some of the person only use one or two of the three methods, others experience all three stages in this order, in which the acceptance of separation is the most mature stage of the process.
