This paper proposes two-mode field excitation scheme for fault-tolerant operation of a wound field synchronous machine (WFSM). Mode-I is the conventional DC supply field excitation through slip-rings and brushes. Mode-II is the brushless field excitation under a fault condition resulting in unregulated field current. The proposed scheme uses a single inverter.-
