dc.description.abstractThis study presents an experimental performance evaluation of the liquid-desiccant regeneration module that employs a direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) process. The DCMD-based regeneration module is implemented to re-concentrate the diluted liquid desiccant in the dehumidification process. In the present work, the regeneration process uses a hydrophobic composite membrane, comprising of an active layer of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and a support layer of polypropylene (PP). The performance of the flat-sheet module is experimentally evaluated for assorted operation conditions such as concentrations of liquid-desiccant solutions (i.e., feed) and temperatures and flow rates of feed and permeate streams. Aqueous solutions of lithium chloride (LiCl) in a concentration range of 30−34% weight are used in the experiments. The results are described by parameters such as the permeate flux and the performance ratio.-
