dc.description.abstract | Most concrete pavements of Korean expressways have performed more than their design service lives and are deteriorating at a fast rate. This study conducted an overall condition assessment of such concrete pavements aged over 20 years and proposed a process for identifying such concrete pavement sections that require remodeling (rehabilitation/reconstruction) at network level. Video recording of 1426 lane-Km concrete pavements over 20 years was conducted for this purpose. RMR (remodeling Rating) is proposed as a quantitative index of the pavement condition evaluation to be used for the determination of the urgency of the pavement remodeling at network level through the analysis of the video. Additionally, remodeling alternatives for major pavement distresses are proposed in this study. The result of the analysis of the overall condition of concrete pavements of Korean expressways revealed severely deteriorated pavement condition of the Jungbu, Yeongdong, and Namhae expressways. But, concrete pavements not affected by ASR (Alkali-Silica Reaction) or deicing chemical showed good performance even though they are older than their design service lives. | - |
