Abstract

In architecture, symbolism based on human perception and experience should be pursued. It's because that as symbolical animals, human beings give meaning to everything they perceive and experience and they behave according to the meaning. About the symbolic expression, which is an essential part of architecture expression for architecture as culture, architecture as communication, and sustainable architecture, this study suggests possibilities that can be applied to real work by grasping ways and characteristics for symbolic expression in contemporary architecture via case analysis based on research on the symbolic expression in architecture, such as the concept establishment about symbol, the relationship between the architecture and symbolic expression, and the meaning and structure of the symbolic expression.
