Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Geriatrics Depression Scale (GDS) on Senior Fitness (SF), balance, and the Modified Falls Efficacy Scale (M-FES) for community-dwelling elderly women. This study was performed by using a cross-sectional research design and composed of based on single group research methods. Twenty-nine subjects participated in this study, who are over 65 years elderly women living in the community. In order to evaluate the elderly women's depression level, GDS assessment was performed first. To assess the physical fitness level, SF assessment was performed secondly. Finally, to evaluate elderly women's balance and falls efficacy, both Timed Up-and-Go (TUG) test and M-FES were performed. Among depression level, fitness, balance, and falls efficacy scale of correlation analysis results are as follows. First, on result of correlation analysis and regression analysis, each significant negative correlation and significant regression results were founded between GDS and M-FES (p<0.05). Second, significant results were not founded between GDS and each 30 seconds chair-stand test, Arm curl test, 2 minutes step test, and TUG test (p>0.05). In this study, significant negative correlation was founded between GDS and M-FES. Higher levels of depression may be low levels of falls efficacy, thus there is need to apply proper exercise program to improve falls efficacy in elderly women.
