- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to investigate the biological properties of exopolysaccharide (EPS) isolated from microalgae.
Amount of EPS extracted from the microalgae was slightly increased as time dependent manner for the extraction. However totalamount of lipid extracted after EPS extraction was reversely decreased. These results suggest that alkaline condition for EPSextraction may affect on the lipid content. Optimum temperatures for carbohydrate extraction toward three different microalganamed as PBRI-1, Dunaliella tertiolecta, and Botryococcus braunii were determined to be 4, 24 and 50°C respectively.
Furthermore, lipid extraction on temperature dependence for EPS has similar tendency with of its EPS extraction. MeanwhileEPSs obtained from microalga did not have significant antioxidant activity, however possess significant inhibitory effect onenzyme activity of tyrosinase. Especially EPS from D. tertiolecta has about 90% of inhibitory effect on the same enzyme. Theseresults demonstrated that EPSs from microalgae is a potential substance as for cosmetic product with having whitening activity.
